A man from Cairo has been jailed for 10 years for his role in a bid to get the pharmaceuticals from Egypt's biggest and most profitable drug company, a court has heard.
The defendant, 20, from Cairo, also faced up to six years in prison for his role in a bid to get the antibiotics from the US.
The defendant was originally jailed on May 25, 2022 for possession of 30,000 capsules of Viagra, the manufacturer of which is based in Cairo, according to court documents.
The court heard that the defendant had received two antibiotics after taking them for the first time, before being sentenced on July 27, 2023.
According to court documents, he was convicted in Egypt in November 2023 for his role in obtaining the drugs, which are used to treat conditions such as HIV, hepatitis C, gonorrhea and syphilis.
The case is being prosecuted by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and is expected to be handed over to the Egyptian Judicial Council.
